Rhett Bennett Overton Has Arrived!

Born Saturday, August 1st at 9:11am. 7lbs 1 ounce and 21 inches. AWESOME!

It was just last Thursday that Hannah had seen her doctor for a checkup. He had decided to induce her by the 8th since there wasn't any sign of Rhett attempting to come out. I had the day off so Hannah and I hung out by the pool, I drew a little Stewie on her belly, etc. Good times. Early Friday morning around 5am she started having contractions! She went most of the day with them and finally went into the hospital that night. She was told to go back home since she was barely dilated. Poor thing was in a lot of pain but still doing good! An hour later I got a phone call from Shane very nonchalantly to tell me that Hannah's water had just broke and they were headed back to the hospital. I, at the time had just gotten back from taking Brandon to dinner for his promotion into the Fresno Police Department. We had just started to watch a movie, as soon as I got the call... I literally grabbed my stuff, rushed him into the car to drive him home, and was at St. Agnes in like 2 minutes flat. LOL. I got there before my mom did but somehow I got stopped at the entrance and she snuck herself all the way up to Hannah's room!

St. Agnes was just about to piss me off. LOL. They informed me that due to the "Swine Flu" (please) there could be no more than 2 visitors in the rooms at all times. Normally they allow 3... so here I am desperately wanting to see my sister, waiting in a lobby at 11pm by my lonesome wondering what's happening. Finally my mom came down and I was able to go up. We switched back and forth from there on out. The first time I saw her at the hospital she was only dilated 2cm but was in extreme pain. Now, I've seen my sister in a lot of pain before so I knew exactly what that looked like. She basically goes into a hellish, "I want to kill you now" mode where she can't hear the outside world and demands everything. She wanted the epidural!!! They had to wait for her doctor to approve but finally she got it. Ended up going through 3 epidurals by the time the baby was actually born. Lol.

From 11pm to 6am my life consisted of running up to check on her, switching with my mom, and attempting to sleep on a couple seats I pulled together in the lobby. She was at about 6cm around 4am. Finally, I think at one point everyone got some sleep. I woke up at 6am to the sounds of the normal hustle and bustle of the hospital. I felt like I had been hit by a train, I was exhausted. I text Shane to ask of any news. Finally she was making progress and was at 10cm but the baby hadn't dropped enough for her to start pushing. Half an hour to nine she started getting ready for the birth. It was definitely an exciting time. I was certainly bummed that I couldn't be in the room when Rhett was born (stupid rules). But I was there when the process first began, as the lights went on, the doc got her situated. The baby was about to arrive so I ran down stairs as fast as I could to get my mom since I knew she needed to be there. Just after he was born my mom came down to switch me and when I got there he was being weighed and having his footprints taken. Shane was doting over him, it was an emotional time. I cried and he cried. I looked over to Hannah laying on the bed, feet still in straps getting sewn up and I'll never forget her face. It was mere bliss and satisfaction, she was laying back, eyes closed and the biggest grin ever. She was SOOO happy, it was awesome. Just amazing and beautiful, so special, so incredible.

Shane's parents got there just after that and I ran down to let them come up! We all sat around in the hospital switching out to see the baby. Before long it was 3pm and I was about to crash. My mom and I went home to shower and try to nap. I fell into a deep sleep and woke up at 7:30pm planning on going back up to the hospital. To my dismay I then discovered visiting hours ended at 8pm so I planned to be up bright and early to come the next morning. Again to my dismay visiting hours started at 10am instead of 8am. LOL. I finally got there and was able to spend sometime with Rhett, Hannah and Shane. That day at noon I went to pick up my dad from the airport. We rushed back over to the hospital just in time for Rhett to go poop, lol. After which he was then allowed to go home. We watched as they drove away for the first time with their new son :o)

I drove my dad back to my Grandparent's house and soon after Shane and Hannah had called me to come over to their place to spend some quality time with the baby :o) I felt pretty special! That night we had a bbq at my mom's with both families. Later Rhett got to spend time at my Grandparent's house as well. Throughout the week Hannah has been taking him in to have his Bilirubin levels tested for jaundice. He was at 15 on Monday, his levels rose again to 17, then again to 19 on Wednesday. We were getting really concerned because he wasn't really spending much time awake, he was turning very yellow, wasn't having bowel movements or peeing frequently. Basically he wasn't getting enough to eat. The doctor had phytotherapy pads sent over to help him fight the jaundice. He was supposed to lay on it 24/7 but it wasn't helping much. He was also recommended to start trying to drink formula. Hannah and I ran to the store to get some and tried to feed it to him... but he just wasn't having it. Finally, Wednesday night Shane and Hannah took him to Valley Children's. He was eventually able to get on an IV and put under UV lights. Yay! He's MUCH better now and I can't wait to see him tonight. They just got home from the hospital and I've heard he's put on more weight already!!!

I swear this kid is gonna get all my money and TIME. I just can't stop holding him :) I can't wait to see his personality and hear his little voice speak words. Haha! My nephew is the most awesome child in the WORLD. xoxo
