It's official - Yogi for Life

I realize it has been quite some time since I've last posted a new blog. Within the past few months I have continued on with school, I will graduate with my Masters in Counseling Psychology this year. Also, during the last few months I have learned and grown way more than I ever expected. I have been dedicated to an internship (practicum site) in which I have been able to assess and conduct therapy sessions with adults suffering from every disorder in the book (DSM-IV of course), a broad spectrum of mental illness and medical conditions. It has been rewarding to say the least. It is right where I need to be. I am there almost everyday of the week for hours, engaging in my first experiences as a therapist. It is valuable knowledge and I am learning just how passionate I truly am about my role in the mental health field. Last week I was able to conduct my own presentation on Schizoaffective Disorder vs. Schizophrenia and I was on a complete high from the experience. I have become aware of my love for educating and I cannot wait for the opportunity to teach in the near future. I absolutely love what I do and I am blessed by the opportunity I have been given at this site and with my Clinical Psychologist supervisor. I have begun my own journey of self discovery and psychoanalytic philosophy.

I have also begun a new journey of physical health and wellness. This past week I have devoted myself to getting back into shape and training as I once did so long ago. I have been relentless in my pursuit to stay fit, specifically engaging in kettlebell training and high intensity interval training. Not only that but I have returned to my personal trainer for individual sessions and an extra push in working harder. It has been crucial in feeling good and loving myself in a whole new light. In addition to my running routine and wieght lifting regimen I have become a Yogi!

Yoga... I had always been interested in participating in Yoga but wondered if I would really enjoy it. My first yoga class was last week and I realized how truly in need of this form of balance, focus, stability, and relaxation I was. It began with difficutly as I struggled to center my thoughts, create fluid movements, and find peace. Midway through the class I was able to let go and thus began my love of yoga; my enjoyment in my body, gratitude for my abilities, and fulfillment in the moment. Later that week I again attended a yoga session and continued to work on being present and mindful. It was just tonight that I attended my first Bikram Yoga Class which was needless to say intense and hot! WOW! I'm still amazed, I had no idea what I was getting myself into! It was phenomenal, I was sweating from every pore in my body imensely and found that my body was changing. I am learning the art of breathing and releasing the tension and the pain caused by the tension in my body, something that a person with anxiety would call priceless. I am noticing that my posture is improving and I look forward to such great benefits from this new adventure :)

Tonight I also began my 40hr Domestic Violence Training through Fresno's Majorie Mason Center in which I will end with a certification in order to counsel domestic violence victims. It's been a great start to 2012 and I look forward to this year and all the blessings it will bring.

Until the next blog... good night.
